Ritual for Easing Grief

  • Several (10 to 20) jet beads
  • Necklace cord with clasp or thick thread
  • White candle

Instructions:
Light the candle and take three deep breaths.
Holding a jet bead in one hand and the necklace cord or thread in the other,
recall a positive memory of the person you are grieving. This can be a
particular story, a character trait you admired in the person, or something
joyful about your relationship with them.
Speak out loud about this memory. If you feel inclined, speak to the person.
Or you can speak about them. For example, you can say “You always asked
me how my day went when I came home,” or “She had the best laugh.”
After speaking of the memory out loud, string the bead onto the cord or
thread.
Repeat this process for each of the jet beads.
When you have finished, secure the clasp or tie a knot in the thread.
You may wish to wear the beads as a necklace, place them on your altar, or
hang them in a special place in your home.
At some point in the future, you may feel that it’s time to let go of the string
of beads or store them in a place where you won’t see them. This is fine, and
should be taken as a sign that you have moved forward significantly in your
grieving process.
